University of Rochester Professor Emeritus and noted Lithuanian linguist Dr. Antanas Klimas passes away at age 92

Professor Emeritus Antanas Klimas passed away on September 18, 2016 at age 92. Dr. Klimas was a member of faculty from 1957 until 1989. Among Dr. Klimas' notable scholarly achievements was the publication of the first English language grammar of Lithuanian.

The son of Prof. Antanas Klimas, Prof. Tadas Klimas (U of Rochester class of 1977), provided this brief obituary:

Antanas Klimas, professor emeritus of the University of Rochester, entered into rest Sunday September 18, 2016 at age 92 in Brighton, New York. Pre-deceased by his wife Dana, Prof. Klimas is survived by his children: Tadas, Ruta, Paulius (Daiva), & Lina. Professor Klimas was on the faculty of the Department of Linguistics at the University of Rochester from 1957-1989. He was buried at the Holy Sepulchre cemetery in Rochester on September 21, 2016. His Memorial Mass will be scheduled for a future date.
