Dedicated to theater, dance, and music, the Sloan Performing Arts Center was made possible thanks to the generosity of supporters. The center is an expansive 30,000-square-foot, three-story building featuring the following amenities and more:
Attention to detail
The University of Rochester’s Sloan Performing Arts Center opened its doors in fall 2021. The center serves the International Theatre Program, the Program of Dance and Movement, the Arthur Satz Department of Music, and the campus at large.
Housing the Smith Theater, scene shop, costume shop, prop shop, conditioning lab, Perlberg Green Room, dressing rooms, and more—each space in the Sloan Center will be fully utilized to encourage creative expression, skill building, and community activity.
The College offers a variety of musical performances and more than 100 music classes to undergraduates. Rochester is also home to over 40 performing arts-based clubs on the River Campus, including 20 cocurricular dance groups. In addition, the International Theatre Program typically offers four productions annually and two smaller works.
Institute for Performing Arts
Located next to Todd Union and near Strong Auditorium, the Sloan Center completes a performing arts corridor on the River Campus—each building designed to support an array of creative activities, including classes, rehearsals, set and costume production, and performances.
