Undergraduate Program

Combined Degree and Accelerated Public Health Program (4+1)

The Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health Sciences in collaboration with the School of Arts & Sciences offers combined degree and accelerated programs (4+1) that are designed to:

• Expedite the time to obtain a master's degree
• Streamline the master's application process or eliminate the need to apply entirely
• Lower the cost to obtain a master's degree

In both programs, undergraduate students take select graduate classes that can be transferred into the master's program and receive a partial tuition scholarship when they transition to full-time graduate students.

Both programs all students to pursue one of the following master’s programs:

• Public Health (MPH)
• Clinical Investigation (MS)
• Epidemiology (MS)
• Health Services Research and Policy (MS)

Combined Degree Program Versus Accelerated Program

In the combined degree program you:

• Apply during your initial application to URochester
• Are granted conditional admission to the master’s program after acceptance with no need to reapply

In the accelerated program you:

• Apply during your junior year
• Must be in an eligible undergraduate program
• Receive an application fee waiver when you apply to your master’s program of choice, and your application will receive expedited review.

Both programs provide students with:

• Early advising by renowned graduate faculty mentors
• Extensive research and professional development opportunities
• Access to premier research facilities
• Partial tuition scholarship for full-time graduate students
• The ability to pursue one of the following programs:
  • Public Health (MPH)
  • Clinical Investigation (MS)
  • Epidemiology (MS)
  • Health Services Research and Policy (MS)

Eligibility

As an undergraduate in the combined or accelerated degree program, you can major in any of the following interdisciplinary health-related programs:

• BA in Bioethics
• BS in Clinical and Translational Sciences
• BS in Environmental Health
• BA in Epidemiology
• BA in Health Behavior and Society
• BA in Health Policy

As an undergraduate in the accelerated program, you can also minor in any of the following programs (note: this option is not available for the combined degree program):

• Bioethics
• Epidemiology
• Health Behavior and Society
• Health Policy
