The department hosts a broad range of regularly scheduled seminars and lectures. Most talks last 50 min with 10 min for questions, and are preceded by a social tea time.

Astronomy/Astrophysics Seminar

Graduate Teaching Seminar

A series of lectures for graduate students in which techniques for effective teaching are discussed. Fridays at 10:00am. The current seminar chair is Segev BenZvi.

Special Lectures

The Dexter Lectures

Named in honor of David L. Dexter, a former condensed matter theorist in the department, the Dexter Lectures bring a distinguished scientist to campus once each year for a colloquium lecture. Recent lecturers in this series have included: David Awschalom, William Bialek, Sir Roger Penrose, Albert J. Libchaber, Robert H. Austin, Charles H. Bennett, Britton Chance and Alexei A. Abrikosov. 

The Montroll Lectures

Named in honor of Elliott Montroll, a former statistical physicist in the department, the Montroll Lectures bring a distinguished scientist to campus once every two or three years for a week's series of seminars and colloquium. Past lecturers in this series have included: Sir Michael Berry, Gerard 't Hooft, V. L. Ginsburg, S. Okubo, and H. M. Nussenzveig.
