About Interim Dean Duje Tadin
Duje Tadin is the interim dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. He started in the role August 1, 2024, and previously held the position in the summer of 2023.
As interim dean, Tadin oversees the school’s 19 departments and more than a dozen programs and institutes related to instruction in the arts and humanities, social sciences, and natural and physical sciences. He will the lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan that aligns with the greater goals of the University.
Tadin assumed the role following five years as chair of the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, where he is a professor. He has faculty appointments in the Center for Visual Science, the Department of Neuroscience, and the Department of Ophthalmology.
He joined the University in 2007 as an assistant professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences after receiving bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and psychology at Westminister College and a PhD in psychology from Vanderbilt University.
Tadin’s research centers on elucidating the neural mechanisms that lead to the human visual experience, and his research on spatial mechanisms of visual motion perception has had a lasting impact on the field. He has also made significant contributions to high-profile papers dealing with binocular vision, visual adaptation, multi-sensory interactions, and visual function in inpiduals with low-vision, stroke patients, and children with autism.
His work has been featured by numerous news outlets, including TIME magazine, The Atlantic, Cable News Network (CNN), British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and National Public Radio (NPR).
Tadin has been recognized with Vanderbilt University’s Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Elsevier/Vision Sciences Society Young Investigator Award. He has a track record of securing funding from the National Institute of Health as well as private foundations.
