Requirements
Prerequisite Courses
AP credit is acceptable upon approval
Chemistry:
- CHEM 131: Chemical Concepts, Systems, and Practices l
Mathematics:
- MATH 161: Calculus lA
Or the series of courses below:
- MATH 141: Calculus l
- MATH 142: Calculus ll
Physics: (choose one of the following options)
- PHYS 113: General Physics I
- PHYS 121*: Mechanics
Additional Course:
- One other course in related sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, or statistics).
*Please note that PHYS 121 provides more opportunities for students who wish to switch to the geological sciences BS program during their studies.
Geology Core Courses
EESC 101: Introduction to Earth Sciences
EESC 201: Evolution of the Earth
EESC 204: Earth Materials
EESC 208: Structural Geology
EESC 223: Earth Surface Processes: The Science of Scenery OR EESC 203: Sedimentology and Stratigraphy
Technical Electives
Three technical electives should be chosen to create what the student and faculty advisor(s) view as a coherent program. Any EESC courses at the 200 level or higher are acceptable. One 100-level EESC course may be acceptable if it was taken in the first year.
Writing Requirement
Two core courses or technical electives must be taken as writing courses (writing courses are indicated by a W).
