A curse, a riddle, a killing, an act of mercy, a plague: what happens when the source of all that ails your world turns out to be you yourself? Sophocles’ most profound and celebrated play, Oedipus—a shocking, suspenseful murder-mystery as much as a meditation on fate, guilt, and family—confronts us questions of responsibility, governance, free will and the blindness of power that are as current today as they were 2,500 years ago when this masterpiece of Western thought and art was written. In a new translation by poet, Robert Bagg, Jo Cattell’s immersive and site-specific production, in which the audience moves between spaces and events happen simultaneously, promises to be an extraordinarily exciting not-to-be-missed theatrical experience.
