Vernice Miller

Vernice Miller, director, also performer, producer, educator and activist hails from the Caribbean island Jamaica. A selection of Miller’s work includes directing Three Women(Break the Silence) by anthropologist Dr. Omotayo Jolaosho at the Market Theater Laboratory in Johannesburg, before touring South Africa. Most recently Miller directed Bee Trapped Inside the Window by Saviana Stanescu for HartBeat Ensemble in Hartford, CT and Verses at Work, with and by Malik Work for the Public Theatre Mobile Unit and Joe’s Pub. In Slovenia and Poland, Miller performed and co-directed Nomansland for Seth Baumrin’s Subpoetics International. For ten years Miller collaborated touring internationally with HBO comedienne Hazelle Goodman. For network television, Miller shadowed director Felix Alcala on the CBS series Madam Secretary throughout filming of season 6, episode 9: Carpe Diem. Miller has collaborated with such luminaries as Pulitzer Prize winning jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, Nobel Laureate Sir Derek Walcott and the great Opera phenom, Jessye Norman. In 1995 with Joann Maria Yarrow, Miller co-founded A Laboratory for Actor Training Experimental Theatre Company, to evolve work they began with Roberta Carreri at Eugenio Barba's Odin Teatret in Denmark. Currently an adjunct lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC. Miller is the recipient of the London New Play Festival's Best Actress Award for her solo performance of Medea: Now.
