There are two main types of neural recordings, which are intracellular and extracellular Recordings.
Spike sorting is a crucial step to extract information from extracellular recordings. However, extracellular recordings are not exact.
At the same time, due to its necessity for studying brain function, all electrophysiology labs have to do it. However, it is time consuming for researchers, and no centralized platform makes comparing data from different labs difficult.
In general, current spike sorting algorithms remove noise and split raw data into individual neurons based on different waveforms.
Specifically, we focus on two online sorting algorithms, which are Kilosort and spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) spiking neural network (SSN). We conduct a comparison of Kilosort with human-sorted data. We also analyze the similarities between Kilosort and STDP based models
