In 150 words or less, please name the kinds of organizations [e.g. government agencies, legislative offices, non-profit organizations, advocacy organizations] and/or the occupations [e.g. law, electoral politics, public service, policy advocacy, policy research, etc.] you are interested in being exposed to in an internship as part of PSCI 394.

Succeeding in PSCI 394 will require you to balance the academic demands of your coursework at Rochester with your obligations to your supervisor and colleagues at your internship placement. In the space below, list the internship and paid jobs (not volunteer positions) you have held in the past while taking courses as a full-time student, both at the high school and college level. For each internship or paid job you list, indicate the approximate number of hours per week you worked at that internship or job, along with the start and end dates of the position. If you have never held an internship or paid job while taking courses as a full time student in high school or in college, leave this question blank.

250 words or less

In 400 words or less, describe a time when you held an internship or a paid job while taking courses as a full-time student and when meeting the expectations of your supervisor and/or colleagues at your internship or job came into conflict with the demands of your academic work in the courses you were taking. Describe how you handled that conflict. Be specific about (a) whether and how you communicated with your supervisor or colleagues at your internship or job about the conflict, (b) whether and how you communicated with any of your course instructors about the conflict, (c) whether you found a way to meet all of the conflicting obligations you faced, or whether instead you dropped some of the conflicting obligations, and (d) your evaluation, in retrospect, of how you handled the conflict between the demands of your courses and the demands of your internship or job. If you have never held an internship or paid job while taking courses as a full time student, leave this question blank.
