Current Fellow
The inaugural, 2023 Sag Fellow is Professor John Beavers. Professor Beavers is the Chair of the Department of Linguistics and the Robert D. King Centennial Professor of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.
Professor Beavers received his PhD from Stanford University in 2006 (also MA 2002). He did his undergraduate work at UT Austin, where he received a simultaneous BS in Computer Science and BA in Linguistics and Mathematics.
John is the editor of Language, the journal of the Linguistic Society of America, and one of the most important journal in the field of linguistics, not just nationally but also internationally.
He has numerous publications in the top journals in the field, including Journal of Linguistics, Journal of Semantics, Language, Lingua, Linguistics, Linguistic Inquiry, and Natural Language & Linguistic Theory. He has also co-authored (with Professor Andrew Koontz-Garboden, University of Manchester), a seminal book on lexical semantics, The Roots of Verbal Meaning, published by Oxford University Press in 2020.
