Research
In the Jiang group, we are interested in combining space and time-resolve spectroscopy to study, utilize and create excited-state species inside biological systems. Current mechanistic investigations and applications of these systems remain in vitro, and we are pursuing the possibility of in vivo measurements. Our lab therefore will employ an interdisciplinary approach based on organic synthesis, physical chemistry and biochemistry.

Studying native excited states

We study the mechanism of various photoactive proteins with transient absorption microscopy.
Utilizing native excited states

We design Raman probes and proteins for multiplex and volumetric Raman imaging.
Creating unnatural excited states

We equip enzymes with external photosensitizers to achieve excited-state photochemistry.
