Where is home/where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Kerala, a small state located on the southwestern coast of India, bordering the Arabian Sea. Often hailed as "God's Own Country," Kerala's stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, unique culture, and spiritual significance make it a true paradise for nature enthusiasts!

Why did you choose chemistry as a career?

Growing up with my father, a chemical engineer at Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd., I had the unique opportunity to explore the world of chemistry firsthand. Frequent visits to the industry allowed me to witness the fascinating process of chemical manufacturing and learn about various chemical compounds. My father's engaging chemistry demonstrations further ignited my passion for the subject.

What do you like to do when not in the department?

I love exploring new places whenever I have the opportunity. Given the diverse culinary landscape here, I enjoy trying various international cuisines. When I'm not traveling, I find relaxation through dancing and painting.

Onam Sadhya is a grand feast that celebrates the harvest festival of Onam in Kerala, India. This elaborate vegetarian meal, served on a banana leaf, showcases the region's rich culinary traditions. With over 20 dishes ranging from savory curries to sweet desserts, Onam Sadhya is a delightful experience for all!

Athachamayam is a cultural fiesta which provides one the rare opportunity to witness almost all the folk art forms of Kerala. It is a grand celebration which marks the beginning of the ten-day Onam Festival. Every year on the Atham asterism of the Malayalam month of Chingam (roughly August/September), Thripunithura, near Kochi, bears witness to this legendary ceremony which commemorates the victory of the Raja (King) of Kochi. There is a magnificent procession representing that of the King and his entourage. It is accompanied by caparisoned elephants, floats, musical ensembles and a variety of folk art forms.
