What do you like to do when not in the department?

Issaquah, WA, USA

What is your proudest accomplishment while at the URochester?

I am organizing a Graduate Student Symposium at Spring ACS titled “Chemical Innovation for Industrial Application.” I’d like to thank my fellow committee members Pat, Bevan, Revathy, and Mafe! We’ve been working for over a year, and I’m proud of how it has come together and excited to have ACS members come and learn something new!

What do you like to do when not in the department?

Summer has become my favorite season in Rochester, and I take advantage of seeing the sun as much as possible. I go wine tasting in the Finger Lakes and Niagara. I also fish with my husband.

A Rochester must?

A Rochester must is eating at any of the amazing restaurants! Recently, I’ve been to Roam Café, Fiorella, and Cure.

Feast/meal of the times? Details, please!

A timeless meal I love to have with my best friend is from Din Tai Fung. We always order the same thing: Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Spicy Wontons, Pork Chop Fried Rice, and Red Bean & Mochi Xiao Long Bao.

An inspiring book/movie/show? We are really curious as to why!

I read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. At face value, it is a simple story of a shepherd’s journey, but the main theme throughout is about finding one destiny, which really reminded me of the journey of graduate school.

Ask me about…

Gluten-free baking and what I’m watching on Netflix right now.

The goal of this initiative is to highlight the diversity of backgrounds and perspectives in the Department of Chemistry and help our community develop stronger connections and synergies. You can think of these spotlights as the beginning of a conversation that we very much hope you will continue in the corridors of Hutch and beyond.
