  • BIOL 110L: Principles of Biology I with Lab
  • BIOL 112L: Perspectives in Biology I with Lab -students with BIO AP exam scores of 4, 5, or IB exam scores of 7 have the option to take BIOL 112 instead of 110
1. Biology Introductory Course II (Select one)
  • BIOL 111L: Principles of Biology II with Lab
  • BIOL 113L: Perspectives in Biology II with Lab -prerequisite: BIOL 112L
2. CHEM 131 General Chemistry I
  • Optional for students with AP credit for CHEM 131 as it may be used to satisfy general chemistry I requirement:
    • Students with pre-med interests should consult the Health Professions Advising Office for consultation on applicability of AP credit to med school requirements
    • Students with AP CHEM credit who opt to take the CHEM 171/173 and 172/210 first year organic series may use it to satisfy general chemistry and organic chemistry requirements for UPBM majors
2. CHEM 132 General Chemistry II
  • Optional for students with AP credit for CHEM 132 as it may be used to satisfy general chemistry II requirement:
    • Students with pre-med interests should consult the Health Professions Advising Office for consultation on applicability of AP credit to med school requirements
    • Students with AP CHEM credit who opt to take the CHM 171/173 and 172/210 first year organic series may use it to satisfy general chemistry and organic chemistry requirements for UPBM majors

1. Introductory Genetics (Select one)
  • BIOL 190: The Human Genome - required for BS major in ecology and evolutionary biology
  • BIOL 198: Principles of Genetics - required for BS major in biochemistry, cell and developmental biology, molecular genetics, and microbiology (see neuroscience website for application to major)
    • Either may be used to satisfy requirement for the BA in biological sciences and the BS in computational biology
    • Either may be used for students on pre-med tracks
1. Introductory Biochemistry (Select one)
  • BIOL 250: Intro to Biochemistry
  • BIOL 252: Principles of Biochemistry - strongly recommended for BS in biochemistry track
    • Required for BS majors in biochemistry, cell and developmental biology, molecular genetics, and microbiology
    • Optional for the BA in biological sciences and the BS major in ecology and evolutionary biology.
    • See neuroscience major requirements for possible application of BIOL 250/252 to major
    • Recommended for students with medical school interests

  • Majors are officially declared in spring of sophomore year. UPBM majors should contact the UPBM administrator to set-up tentative schedule and receive advisor assignment. Neuroscience majors should contact the brain and cognitive science undergraduate coordinator.
  • AP credit for chemistry, calculus, statistics, and physics may be used to satisfy allied requirements.
  • Quest, honors and higher level courses may be used with approval.
