Daniel Pyskaty '25 awarded Fulbright Study/Research Grant in Germany

Congratulations to Daniel Pyskaty ’25 (B.S., Brain & Cognitive Sciences / B.A., Linguistics), who has been awarded a Fulbright Study/Research Grant to Germany. Hosted by the Institute of German Linguistics at Philipps Universität Marburg, Daniel will investigate how the brain processes vowel sounds using EEG neuroimaging techniques under the mentorship of Dr. Mathias Scharinger. His research explores the essential acoustic features required for speech perception, work that could have lasting implications for speech recognition and assistive technologies.
Drawn to Germany for its vibrant research community and strong ties to both neuroscience and linguistics, Daniel is also excited to deepen his connection to German culture, having completed a humanities cluster in German language and culture at Rochester.
On campus, Daniel served as the 2023–2024 Student Body President, worked as a research assistant at the Carney Auditory Neuroscience Lab, and acted as a Student Alumni Ambassador. After his Fulbright year, he plans to pursue a PhD focused on the neuroscience of language.
