Major Requirements
Students interested in pursuing a BA in film and media studies can choose from one of two tracks:
Students who are double majoring, earning a dual degree, or taking a minor or cluster in a related area should review the overlap policy before selecting their courses.
Theory Track (12 Courses)
- One of the following introductory courses:
- FMS 131: Introduction to Media Studies
- FMS 132: Introduction to the Art of Film
- One course in film/media history
- One course in international or transnational film/media
- Three courses in film/media theory and analysis
- One course in media production
- Five upper-level (200+) courses in film/media studies.
Production Track (12 Courses)
- One of the following introductory courses:
- FMS 131: Introduction to Media Studies
- FMS 132: Introduction to the Art of Film
- One course in film/media history
- One course in international or transnational film/media
- Three courses in film/media theory and analysis
- One upper-level course (200+) in a non-production area
- Five courses in production-related areas
