Dustin Trail (he/him)
Position/what you do at U of R?
Associate Professor. I am a high temperature geochemist with strong interests in planetary science, astrobiology, and the origin of life.
Where are you from?
I am from Durango, Colorado and I grew up in Estes Park, Colorado.
What got you interested in Earth and Environmental Sciences?
A fortuitous accident. I took an Earth science class as an undergraduate to satisfy natural science credits (like a "Cluster") for my computer engineering major.
What do you enjoy most about U of R?
Small classes with the opportunity to develop strong relationships with students, and intellectual freedom to pursue high risk research.
Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
I would call it an emerging talent/hobby - I enjoy metal/woodworking. Currently, I am building a cedar strip canoe. I've not made a lot of progress since my daughter was born :)
What is one thing that instantly makes your day better?
A good night of sleep.
