The Neidig group is a physical-inorganic chemistry and catalysis research group at the University of Rochester. Our research focuses on non-precious metal catalysis in organic chemistry, with the long term goal of elevating our understanding of iron- and cobalt-catalyzed organic transformations to the level currently available for palladium catalysis. Towards this goal, we utilize a research approach combining inorganic spectroscopies, DFT calculations, synthesis and kinetic studies that enable the detailed elucidation of the active catalyst species and underlying reaction mechanisms in catalysis with a current focus on iron-catalyzed cross-coupling as well as iron- and cobalt-catalyzed direct C-H functionalization.
