An intensive survey of Chihuahuan Desert bees in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/refuge\/san_bernardino\/\">San Bernardino Valley<\/a> of Mexico and the United States confirmed that the concentration of bee species is among the greatest in the world (<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1051\/apido:2007062\">Minckley 2008<\/a>). Interestingly, a comparison with the extensive collections in the American Museum of Natural History indicate many more bee species in this region (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldcat.org\/oclc\/881652981\">Minckley &amp; Ascher 2013<\/a>). A partial list of the San Bernardino Valley bee fauna is available <a href=\"https:\/\/sas.rochester.edu\/bio\/sites\/minckley\/index.php\/bee-plant-data\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Bee surveys are most recently being done on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hylranch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cienega Ranch, Arizona<\/a>&nbsp;in Chihuahuan Desert Grassland. The extensive ecological restoration being done on the ranch opens many questions about bees.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The University of Arizona is where the entire&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/herbarium.arizona.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">botanical<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uaic.arizona.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">entomological<\/a>&nbsp;collections from the projects are deposited.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Museum records indicate that peak diversity for bees is in the warm North American deserts and around the Mediterranean Sea, however no methodical studies had been done in these areas.
